Hispanic Grants for School

The Hispanic population in the United States has always been on the rise in each and every passing year. In fact, it comprises the biggest minority group in the U.S. Hence, there is no surprise that there are various Hispanic school grants available to support this specific populace.

Hispanic students who plan to attend school can look into a variety of scholarship and grant options to help them acquire free school funding. These programs are specifically tailored to cater students of Latino heritage who are in great need of financial assistance to pursue a college degree. With grants, you don’t ever have to re-pay the sponsors like you do when getting a loan.

There can be multiple grants which you can apply to—only when you look for them. The Hispanic Scholarship fund is a premiere organization in the United States for the Hispanics. Latin students can seek help from the Gates Millennium Scholars program. Established in the year 1999, the program is made available to outstanding graduating seniors from African-American, American-Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic-American origin.

The primary goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to support outstanding students who are in need of financial assistance to pursue college education. Eligible applicants must obtain a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, must possess leadership skills, and must also be in significant financial need.

Aside from the GMS program, the Margoes Foundation and the General College Scholarship also provides assistance to Latino students who aim to finish studies. The former, however, is only open to San Francisco area Latin students who participate in the College Connect program. Eligible students can benefit awards as high as $2,500. On the other hand, the General College Scholarship are for Latin students who reside in the United States (legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551), who plan to attend school full-time in a degree program, and who have at least a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. With these pre-requisites intact, one can readily qualify for the program.

Furthermore, the Proctor and Gamble Company also offers scholarship worth $2,500 through the Hispanic Scholarship Fund to Latino students who plan to pursue a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics degree (STEM field). Like most scholarships, this is only offered to students who plan to attend a full-time degree program in the U.S. and with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. P&G scholarship, though, is only available in limited number of areas.

All of the above mentioned scholarships require a complete FAFSA report before you can apply for the education funding. The FAFSA will be the basis of your qualification for scholarship as it reflects whether or not you are in a significant financial need. Don’t let that scare you though. Just be honest in providing all required information from you. After all, you can always seek the help of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund or your school’s counselor for guidance.
