Grant funding is available in the state of Florida for the organizations that are eligible for it. Let us take a brief look at the new grants that are available in the sunshine state. Read on.
Grants for Organizations in South Florida
If you reside in Florida, West Virginia or Tennessee then there are new grants available to improve the quality of life in those states. The grants range up to $25,000 in total and are foundation grants that are awarded to community based organizations that provide much needed services in southern West Virginia, South Florida and East Tennessee.
Non-Profit Grants
A leading public relations distribution company in Florida is offering grant money to 15 non-profit organizations in the state that are willing to publicize the company’s fundraising events. A newswire is in place to distribute press releases for five of these non-profit organizations at no charge at all and for the 10 others at a 1:1 match. The press releases would go out to most online media and local print publications. This would work in the favor of both the non-profits as well as the public relations distribution company.
Education Grants
In 2011 the University of South Florida has been awarded nine research and faculty hiring grants as a part of the Florida Board of Governor’s “New Florida” initiative strategy. The grants totalled $1.475 million. The grant funding is aimed at remaking the economy of the state throughout the collective capabilities of the 11 public universities found throughout the state of Florida.
The New Florida Initiative awarded money to Florida universities to encourage the development of new technologies, as well as to improve the research capabilities of the postsecondary institutions and to bring new products to fruition and from there to market.
Under-Served Population Grants
Florida has developed grants that are in place to assist under-served populations with financial planning. The purpose behind these grants is to enable and empower individuals to take control of the financial side of their lives through assistance and education initiatives. This grants aims to support the organizations that hire financial planning professionals to help those who need assistance in getting their finances on the right track.
Science and Technology Education Grants
This is a new grant that awards up to $60,000 to support science education for students in the state of Florida. The mission of this education grant is to help communities in discovering the long-term benefits inherent in the advancement of education in the school system.
School Grants in Florida are offered by a number of institutions and corporations. We have listed school grants sources below. The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) State Programs, within the Florida Department of Education, provides a variety of postsecondary educational state-funded grants and scholarships.
The following 17 grants and scholarships are offered in Florida:
Access to Better Learning and Education Grant Program; Cost of Attendance and Adult Norm-Referenced Disability Testing; Critical Teacher Shortage Student Loan Forgiveness Program; Critical Teacher Shortage Tuition Reimbursement Program; Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant and The National Science & Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant; First Generation Matching Grant Program; Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program; Florida Public Postsecondary Career Education Student Assistance Grant Program; Florida Resident Access Grant Program; Florida Student Assistance Grant Program; Florida Work Experience Program; José Martí Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund; Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship Program; Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program; Rosewood Family Scholarship Program; Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans and Servicemembers; and Talented Twenty Program.
For the “Access to Better Learning and Education Grant Program”, (ABLE) Grant, the following are the eligible academic institutions where this grant is offered: 1) AI Miami International University of Art and Design; 2) Belhaven College; 3) Carlos Albizu University; 4) Columbia College; 5) Florida National College; 6) Johnson & Wales University; 7) Keiser University; ) National Louis University; 9) Northwood University; 10) South University; 11) Springfield College; 12) Trinity International University; and 13) Union Institute & University. These 13 institutions are private colleges and universities. Applicants should contact the Financial Aid Office of the corresponding academic institution to apply for this grant, and each institution determines the application procedures, deadlines, and student eligibility. The annual award amount for the ABLE Grant is $986 for the current 2011-11 academic year, and the amount of the ABLE grant received including all other grants for tuition and fees cannot go above the tuition and fees charged by the academic institution.
The Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG) Program is available to undergraduate students who have financial need and are enrolled in participating postsecondary institutions.
The top twenty percent of each senior class in Florida are eligible for the Talented Twenty Program which guarantees these students admission to one of the eleven state universities in Florida and by providing priority funding for the FSAG Public program. The FSAG program is a need-based grant; thus, Talented Twenty students must meet FSAG eligibility requirements in order to receive priority funding.
